I tend to not drink because of my meds (I have never been a big drinker anyway, though), but sometimes I will have a glass of wine. It depends on how soon after I will be driving, because the effect of the alcohol on my driving is enhanced by the medications. I definitely am more cautious about it on meds than I was before being on meds. Sometimes it is hard not to partake when others are, but the truth is, once the initial decision is done when everyone is ordering, etc., it gets easier and I hardly think about the fact that I am not drinking and my friends are. In the kind of social situation you're talking about, I imagine it would be harder, though--I picture multiple rounds and that the drinks are more central to the gathering than the typical glass of wine/beer/drink with meal that is what I deal with.
You have to monitor your own reaction--in your body, in your alertness, coordination, etc. But if you tend toward SA perhaps a little extra caution should be applied.
