In reply to Is pot any better than effexor?, posted by scotto on December 8, 2001, at 2:52:26
Hi Scotto,
I took effexor 75mg for 1 week and i had loads of side effects and generally just didn't feel right on the stuff...the most serious being that i found it hard to breathe at times. I asked my doctor to switch me to a different one and i started on Prozac. Luckily i hardly have any side effects and in the last week its really started to work quite well. As for sexual side effects wellbutrin is supposed to decrease them and many people take them in combination with an ssri such as prozac. Wellbutrin is also marketed under the name Zyban to help people give up smoking, so that could be one to try if you want to give up the puff.
Pot has some sexual side effects to I would say !
In the long run pot is a depressant and will probably make you feel worse. An AD should in the long term improve your outlook and life in general.I guess my advice to you would be to ask your doc for a different AD if you really can't put up with the side effect profile. There will always be an Antidepressant out there which will give you minimal side effects and a good result. Its just a case of hit and miss and being very patient.
Good Luck,
JI heve been on 75 mg hits of effexor for the last few weeks and am not impressed by the side effects. I am still being open minded about continuing my ad program as an alternative to smoking pot but can't help but wonder which is worse. With pot one has to consider the tar intake and legal aspects ,yet in small doses of pot I am not any more messed up and dont experiance the negative side effects such as limp dick ,nausea and tension that effexor is bringing on. and my medical plan doesn't pay for pot.
