It's certainly not a new approach. A psychiatry professor at Georgetown University (Wash DC) does that method. He wrote a book about it a few years a go. I can't remember his name but his book is called the Antidepressant Survival Guide. I think his name is Robert Hedeya. I have it at home. Let me know if you are interested and I'll find out his name for you.
He checks your blood values including vitamins, minerals, thyroid hormones. He checks for cortisol in the saliva during different times of the day. He analyzes hair samples and all sorts of other stuff. He also prescrbes diets to help with mood.
In his book, he claims that many are helped by this type of checkup BUT he says that it's rare that people are able to stop taking prescription antidepressants as a result. So his orthomolecular replacement technique can make one feel better. But it does not replace antidepressants.
If the Pfeiffer people are claiming that a clinically depressed person can give up their medications as a result of their treatment, I would probably stay away from them.
Basically, you should just ask your family doctor or psychiatrist to do a check of your blood levels including thyroid, if they have not already done so, and that should be sufficient. If you are tired a lot, try a B complex vitamin such as B50. Or just take a multi vitamin/mineral.
