>I always thought Neurontin and Klonopin were anti-convulsants. How do they help you with social anxiety please explain this to me?. Thank you for the helpful suggestions.
>Klonopin is an anticovulsant and a benzodiazepine. It binds to the GABAA site to exert its anti-anxiety effect but also inhibits sodium channels in the brain to exert its anticonvulsant effect. Anticonvulsants such as Carbamazepine do sometime cause depression and possess the same anticonvulsant activity as Klonopin in this respect. So, Klonopin possesses a dual mode of action. I dont think Neurontins mechanism of action, and how it helps with social phobia or epilepsy is fully understood. If you are interested I know of no better article than the one I have included below that summarise how Neurontin may work.
