Can somebody please advise. Just to give you some background history. I was 17 when I first became depressed but at the time thought I had a physical illness. This went on until 23 when I became really depressed again thinking I had a physical illness. I finally broke down in the doctors surgery and he prescribed prothiaden. I didn't really want to take this drug because as far I was concerned I was physically ill and not depressed. One night out of desparation I swallowed one and the following morning felt alive for the first time in years, felt as though I had been reborn. I was on this drug for about 5 years until it finally pooped out on me. I then switched to Seroxat (paxil) which worked after about 4 days. I was one Paxil for about 3 years but then came off it about 4 years ago. I now really wish I hadn't. I started to get depressed again last February but kept thinking oh well nevermind I can always go back to the Paxil. Little did I know how the rug was about to be firmly pulled from under my feet. Since then I have been on Remeron, Zooloft and am now on Zyprexa, prothiaden and Paxil. I am convinced that the only drug out of this combination that is helping me is the Zyprexa, I don't feel as though the prothiaden and Paxil are working. Sometimes if I miss the Zyprexa and just take the prothiaden and Seroxat I get really bad anxiety attacks which seem to subside later on in the day by which time I feel utterly exhausted like I've been thrashing around in the water. I am now concerned because my doctor wants to up the prothiaden, this seems to me to be futile and means me wasting another 5 weeks to see if it works.
What I want to know is is there anyone out there who have been made worse by the SSRI's and tryciclics and have gone on to find another drug that does work?
