I just recently started the klonopin too (about 5 days) and am experiencing some of the unsteadiness you are talking about. If it doesn't pass in another couple of days, I'm going to call my doc about it. I take .5 mgs twice daily and tried 1 mg the other day and found it to be complete overkill... The pill cutter is an excellent idea. Also the next time you see your doc you could ask him to rx the .5 mg tabs, they are scored across the center and can be broken evenly for 1/4 mg use.
I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't imagine that there would be much difference between the generic and the name brand. But I'm definitely not experienced in these matters and you should ask your doc and pharmacist to be sure. Teva USA is the manufacturer of my generic and it seems to work great.
I haven't noticed any increase in depression since starting the klonopin, I'm keeping my fingers crossed...for both of us.
