My psychiatrist is also my therapist. I have been seeing him once a week for nearly four years. He is very very good. He is up to date on the new meds and the new combos of meds. He gives me choices and information on drugs then lets me make the decisions on what I want to do. He listens to me and remembers (quite remarkably) things that I'd forgotten I'd told him. I am moving about 2 hours south of here for two years. Instead of saying "so long," he tells me he will keep me as a patient (if I want to) and is willing to adjust his schedule of standing appointments to accommodate mine, since I'll be driving up and back. Also, if my new insurance won't cover these visits, he will lower his rate.
I have had emergency situations and left messages with him. He has always called back immediately to help me through. I apppreciate that. He also asks very good questions that make me think and see what is going on. He's very down to earth and friendly. He has helped me think through a lot of situations.
I am very lucky.
