I'm not sure what type of pain you are having, but have you ever tried a muscle relaxant? I've had success with baclofen. I also found "advil" good for some pain but can't take it anymore because of my stomache. Perhaps you could try it? I also have a prescription for tylenol with codeine, but have considered asking for just the codeine. Taking tylenol steady can give me headaches, I think they're similar to rebound headaches.
I don't use the tablets with codeine often, but when I do I find it helps and I wake up from a refreshing sleep which is rare for me. The dose doesn't need to be high. Have you asked your doctor for a referral to a pain clinic? Or even considered changing doctors? I did and it really helped having a doctor I trust.
