In reply to Serzone + Zyprexa?????, posted by jay on November 11, 2001, at 8:42:20
Hi Jay,Serzone was one of the few meds that helped
me with all symptoms of emotional blunting,
tolerance to stimulants, tension headaches,
sleep disorders. Unfortunately it made
feel a bit drugged out it didn't go away, but
that was me.Anyways, I had a feeling that Zyprexa was a
good alternative to Serzone because it does 2
things that Serzone does that I believe helps
with the emotional numbing, and in my case the
tension headaches. Specifically its noraderenaline
alpha-1 antagonism (which actually inhibits
serotonin firing in a part of the brain), and
the serotonin 5ht-2a receptor antagonism. Both of these
would have an effect of increasing dopamine in
the (pre)frontal cortex where a hypo-dopamanergic
state can cause emotional numbing/detachment and
also tension headaches (its where those facial
neurons are).Anyways, I have found Zyprexa to be *much* more
tolerable than Serzone, and it has helped to
alleviate many of my same problems. For me at
5mg it hasn't had quite the bang of Serzone, but
it doesn't affect me in any negative way cognitively
like Serzone did. Again, this is *my* experience
and anyone else's may vary.Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.
I think if you add in the Zyprexa you may be
able to lower the Serzone dose if you have
problems with cognitive dulling.-john

> Well, I am gonna give it a shot. I may hate it, but we will see. Doesn't seem to be much literature on it, so why the heck...why not give it a shot? Serzone was better for me in a couple of areas: 1)Caused little aggitation or depersonalization(especially suicidal thoughts) 2)No negative effect on sex drive. These are BIGGIES in my book....so I will be a living experiment :-) As we all are..heh.
