Shelli:
I tried it--no success or rather very little. I have my son use it when he has trouble going to sleep at night. I've also tried most if not all (not St. John's wort) of the natural supplements. I rotated through all of the enzymes that are supposed to help (phenylalamine, tyrosine, Gaba, glutamine?)--no go. Maybe they help with minor depression but not with what I have. I definately "felt" them though. I recently had my alternative doctor run an enzyme blood test on me to see if I was deficient in any of these--the answer was no. The test was about $200 if I remember and tested some 40 enzymes. I would rather have the test than try these things out to tell you the truth.
5HTP put me to sleep and made me lethargic generally. The fish oil did nothing. My alternative doctor recommended that I use phosphorylated serine (she was very specific to use this rather than the other PS supplements around). she says that it reduces cortisol--which for me was elevated at night.
