So we're trying the effexor and even though the blue, flat feeling is gone, my patience level is at a bare minimum and the angry outbursts are far more frequent. And the anxiety levels are bad. If I'm not knitting I'm picking my cuticles, biting my fingernails, etc. Need to keep the hands busy or they wind up a mess. My spouse is concerned about the personality changes and parenting a 2 year old is challenging enough as it is, but right now I feel like I'm being way too hard on my little one.

I would absolutely call your pdoc. Though this maybe be some "transitional" phase as you adjust to the effexor, your doc should still be aware of how you are feeling.
Increased anger and agitation can be signs that your depression is lifting. But it also can be a sign that this med does not agree with you, and you need a change. As a mother of a young child, you need all to have some measure of patience and control. And if you and your husband are noticing things that you are not sure of, by all means, call the person prescribing your medication! Please take care.
