I've been taking 100 mg of Nortriptyline for years now. I never reacted to any of the SSRI's, Effexor, Remeron, etc. Since my father had done well with Elavil for most of his life I gave up on the SSRI's and went back to the TCA's. My doctor put me on the Nortrip due to concerns about liver damage (previous condition) and suicide ideations. It really helped with the baseline depression although it didn't due much for my anhedonia or ruminating thoughts.
The only noticable side effect I have is the dry mouth. I almost always need to have a water or mint with me.
I would recommend trying a TCA to anyone not getting any reaction to the "newer" meds.
