Hi Sar.

I'm sorry things aren't going so well for you. Maybe taking a look at my Halloween webpage will help put a smile on your face. :-)

Trileptal is the brand name of the anticonvulsant drug oxcarbazepine. It is closely related to Tegretol (carbamazepine), a drug sometimes chosen to treat bipolar disorder. Trileptal is supposed to retain the anticonvulsive and mood-stabilizing properties of Tegretol while producing milder side effects. It is not supposed to be as disruptive to thinking and memory (cognitive effects). Perhaps more importantly, it has a much reduced risk of producing agranulocytosis, a condition which results in a loss of white blood cells. It is not necessary to take blood tests as frequently with Trileptal as it is with Tegretol. Although agranulocytosis is not a concern, it is probably desirable to monitor blood levels of the drug to make sure they remain within the therapeutic range as well as monitor liver function and sodium levels.

Several people on Psycho-Babble are currently taking Trileptal and will be able to describe their experiences with it. It seems to be well tolerated.

Perhaps you should review your treatment plan with your doctor. He or she can explain what condition(s) you are being treated for and why specific drugs have been chosen or excluded.

Here's a good webpage to read about bipolar disorder:

I hope this helps a bit.
