> Yeah, I've been wondering for a long time now why there is 'treatment-resistant' depression? What is it that is so resistant. The meds? The condition? OR are the problems of a psychological nature and the doc is just trying to shove meds down our throats when what we need is ideas, talk and/or non-chemical solutions?
> Just a philosophical pondering....

I honestly think a part of it is pdocs egos preventing them from being creative and sensitive to our individual needs. There are still a ton of good meds out there that many pdocs look at you in horror if you ask about, and many who think that one little antidepressant will do the trick.

I think a pdoc is like a coach, and you need to have faith in that person, knowing they will support you 24/7, and won't let up until they see signs of improvement from you. They have to stop treating us like children, and realize that the MD diploma on their wall doesn't make them God. With a PDR, many people could likely prescribe quite a few of the psych meds for themselves, yet pdocs make it out to be some "magical" formula.

My basic belief is don't take crap, and go to any means needed to find the attention we deserve. It doesn't mean we will have a "cure", far from it, but at least we can get a better grasp on our symptoms.

Banging on hospital doors and switching doctors continuously dosen't seem to result in new miracle drugs being thrown at us, unfortunately.

I know this is very tough for Americans in particular, because of your for-profit medical system, but be forward and direct in your needs. The U.N. and Amnesty International directly point out health-care IS A RIGHT..period!

Demand another doctor..and another...and another...you and all of us owe it to ourselves! This is the 21'st century for gawwds sake...not the 18th! We have amazing strides in technology...in medicine....and the level and quality of care MUST keep stride! Rattle the cage, demand, and you might really surprise yourself.
