Any incidents of prostatic infection? I have read most of the literature on WB's side effects, but have seen nothing dealing with these areas. Any help?

> PAX...I have had a great deal of urinary retention since I began Wellbutrin approximately 3 weeks ago. As a result, there is 'frequent but non-productive' urination. If it wasn't for the fact that I drink a GREAT deal of water, I would be experiencing UTIs (since I am prone to them anyway). I had already experienced this somewhat with Effexor alone, but it had subsided until I added the Wellbutrin. I do believe urinary retention is a potential side-effect that is listed for Wellbutrin (perhaps under the 'rare' category), and subsequently contributes to the nocturia, etc.
As it relates to your situation, this retention is no doubt contributing to your infections...I don't think the Wellbutrin literature mentions anything about prostatitis, etc. but I do know that repeated UTIs in men can also cause prostate problems (my father experienced this for years--was always taking microdantin, cipro, etc. to take care of the situation). Unless drinking lots of water alleviates this, you might want to talk to a urologist and/or consider changing meds. How long have you been taking this? It may be just a temporary side-effect.
