Prozac (SSRI's) and gut serotonin

Posted by moonman on October 16, 2001, at 9:31:19

Does anyone have info on how ssri's effect system or body levels of serotonin as opposed to brain serotonin? One Pdoc I saw claims that over time Prozac could actually lower gut serotonin or body serotonin; another one claimed the opposite. I ask because I had severe facial flushing after I stopped Prozac and was tested and found to have high levels of serotonin in my urine. Also, some claim anixety is due to too much serotonin in the blood ... is this brain or gut serotonin, and are they different?
