Scott,
I just typed a nice long reply to try to
get in synch with your situation but I lost it.Anyways, you seem to be hunting down some of
the same paths that I have. From what I remember
from earlier this year, you were doing better
on Lamictal and a low dose rispideral or zyprexa.Anyways, Lamictal was the 1st med to lift me
from major depression. But I have still struggled
with dysthymia and chronic pain that is almost
worse than the depression itself. However, from hopping back on this newsgroup
I've noticed you asking a lot of questions that I
was also thinking in my own case of how to resolve
my lingering dysthymia and pain issues. To make a long story short, I've learned alot
about ptsd, bpii and the underpinnings in a
few areas of the brain: the LC(locus coerulus),
raphe serotonergic system,VTA (ventral tegmental
area), and the projections from the VTA into
the shell of the NA and the (pre)frontal cortex.
I've mainly worked backwards trying to use some
deductive logic to explain why meds have inconsistent
reactions on me. Also, I have found that thinking
about my pain symptoms and their treatments has
caused me to stumble on better treatments for the
depression and hypo-mania.I did have 1 cocktail that I wouldn't recommend
anyone try. It was based on an offshoot of the
California Rocketfuel formula. But I called it
"Texas Rocketfuel".Here it went (this knocked my dysthmia right
out the door, but with scary side effects):- Manerix 300 mg (Reversible MAO-A inhibitor)
- Remeron 45 mg (for the 5ht-2 antagonism and
alpha-2 antagonism).
- Selegeline 20-60 mg (for the MAO-B inhibitor).
- Reboxetine 4-8 mg/day.Probably could have swapped Manerix/Selegiline
with Parnate. The idea was to keep the LC
from reaching a norepinephrine depleted state,
and increase the burst firing out of the VTA
up into the prefrontal cortex. I'd explain my
thinking in another mail, as I'm tired. But all
these meds by themselves were side-effect benign
to me but didn't help much. When I did the
combo, dysthymia went running scared. I stopped
the combo because I felt it was dangerous and
I definately had tyramine type food interactions.-john
