In reply to son starting lamictal for bipolar 1- third MS !!, posted by Karen Curtis on October 8, 2001, at 14:30:03
> Hi all. Wish us luck. My 12 year old son has been home for a month, he could not do school due to anger, impulsiveness. He is bipolar 1, severe with psychosis. He is taking depakote 1500, and lithum 900- we tried increasing the lithium to 1200, but that did not do it. So our pdoc (he is very experienced) decided to let us try lamictal. The slow increase is making us all impatient!! My son is also on geodon at 120mg. Please pray for us, it has been a year since he has been really stable! He won't go back to school unless he has improved, and I have taken 6 weeks from my job. My son has all his needs met at school, so when he is stable he does really well. I have found the posts here about lamictal very helpfull, and it gives me hope. Thanks for any replies, Karen Curtis.
I can't imagine how extremely excruciating our
illness (I'm bp ii) is to our loved family members.
I really hope the Lamictal helps. It has one
of the better track records of treating
intractable bipolar disorder. You seem to be very
concerned about your son's condition and are taking
good measures to understand his illness and
improve the quality of his life. I wish
you the best of luck and keep us posted on any
updates. Hang in on the slow dosing...-john
