In reply to Saw Pdoc twice, why refer to psychopharm? (Long), posted by AnneL on October 2, 2001, at 22:04:11
It sounds to me as though this doctor wants to help you and to make sure that your med regimen is right for you. Generally, therapy and the right meds work better than either alone. Sometimes pdocs ask to meet also with family members so that everyone understands what you are going through so that you will have adequate understanding and support at home. He also can glean more helpful info about your recent behavior through family members that you might not see in yourself (moods, personality changes, etc).
It sounds to me as though he is trying to be helpful and thorough. If I were in a similar situation, I would take these opportunities. Obviously, the situation has not gone away. I had no clue what I had for years and was only diagnosed about 4 years ago. I know that if I had had help earlier, I would not have gone down to the level I fell to, nor would I be in the digging-out place I've been in for the past 3+ years. I have been seeing my pdoc weekly for therapy and meds since January of 1998, and he has helped tremendously.
Why not try to nip this in the bud?
Simple remmedies do not always fix depression.
What can it hurt to follow his recommendations?? Just MHO.
