I think your confusion has to do with trials using selegiline is patch release form. The patch has passed through the trial stage, and is now in the application process for getting FDA approval. I spoke to one doctor who was part of the team who ran trials in Boston, and he said several months ago that it should be approved within the next year.
It is the same medication, but I've heard the release from the patch feels smoother.
