In reply to serotonin; dopamine; GABA; neroeprineph-NOT IT, posted by ryan_s on September 10, 2001, at 15:42:19
> I have been depressed or anxious for my entire 23 year old life. Prozac, celexa, buspar, zyprexa, depakote, neurontin, geodon, klonopin, serzone, paxil, lithium, effexor, seroquel, and remeron have all been in my system at one point in time with no results. I have come to the conclusion that the depression must be caused by something else other then imbalances in serotonin, dopamine, GABA or neroepinephrine. Could it be a thyroid problem (just got a blood test and waiting for results)? What else could it be? I would try an MAOI but it seems like most antidepressants effect the same systems in the brain to some degree. I know that all of the fans of psycho babble are not doctors, but do any of you have any advice? Thanks a lot. Tiny Tim.
I would suggest buying a book called "The Successful Treatment of Brain Chemical Imbalance", by Dr Martin Jensen.
The reason is because his way of thinking about brain chemistries is in harmony with the way you are thinking about it.
In the book you will learn how to uncover clues from your previous medication trials, and to figure out what those clues mean. You will learn strategies to try several drugs in a short period of time for the specific purpose of weeding out the duds and uncovering the possible winners. The book tells you how to tell the difference. The way you are looking at your brain chemistry, kind of like a detective gathering clues, is exactly what the book teaches. I think you would find it immensely helpful. It will help you to make sense of the seemingly senseless, and to come up with a solid battle plan of action, complete with the whys and hows.
I could go on and on with some drug ideas to consider, but I think you could better determine for yourself the same kinds of things by getting the book. It's easy reading and quite fascinating. And if I am any proof, it works. I think it's only around $30, and probably the best $30 you'll ever spend.
