Hi, at a "mere" 75 mg/day (I'm tapering off and am down to 37.5 now) I also had variations in mood on EffexorXR. It perked me up in the am after I took it, then I had a "lull" and then another upswing in the late afternoon - I figured this cycle was part of the extended/time release mechanism, but I did NOT like it.
It sure was roller coaster-like fluctuations in energy and mood, and that was only on 75mg of it. I tried taking more when I first went on it, but got very agitated as I titrated up to the "average" dose of 150 mg/day.
I have always taken ONE pill a day of it, in the morning right after eating breakfast because I heard it can cause stomach upset. I did manage to avoid that at least.
I agree with your theory that EffexorXR is designed to go in cycles that produce energy (which can be anxiety and irritability), then calm (which can be somnolence and fatigue).
I am NOT a fan of this particular med, but I bet with some effort you will be able to time it just right, so you can get the cycles in tandem, so that the energy is balanced by the calming effect. Good luck 2 U!
