Hi I just got off of Effexor XR about a week ago. It made me so sick to be on it and then I was really sick getting off of it. My doctor gave me Xanax and there were some days that I had to take two to just get through the day. We were going to see Eric Clapton one night and the withdrawals that caused incredible anxiety, nausea, dizziness was so bad that I took two Xanax that day and stayed in bed then had to take another half just to get through the concert. It was aweful. I feel like I lost a few weeks of my life. I tried to take the capsules of 37.50mg and divide them and that helped some but still needed the Xanax to get through the effects. I finally went to a psychiatrist since I was doing all of this through my internist and he suggested since I was doing half of the 37.50mg for about 5 days to just stop and take 10mg of Celexa plus Klonopin. It helped so much!! I hardly felt the withdrawals after that. I've stayed on the Celexa and am now up to 20 mg and 2mg of Klonopin a day. The side effects of the Celexa are nothing like the hell of Effexor. I was weaning off of only 75mg but it was enough to make me really sick. I just couldn't handle the stuff. Maybe your doctor can add Celexa and Klonopin while you're weaning. I've also read on this site that some people have added small doses of Prozac to help with the withdrawal situation.
