Because benzos are baaaaaaaaaaaaad (say it like a sheep). "You have to improve your sleep hygiene" is what I have been told. I've been trying for 15 years now. I probably don't want it badly enough, or maybe I don't deserve good sleep because I do something bad during the day like have too much fun or something. Good luck with this one. Honestly, I sympathise. The only thing that has helped somewhat is clockwork regularity but even that is not enough. My suggestion is, get the Tranxene from a GP or something. Just do what you think is best. Moralizing doctors are useless. They will never give you a good reason and they think because they sleep great it's just a matter of having strong character or willpower. Good luck anyway, comrad.

> OK, I figured that would make you see what fabric this thread would weave. SLEEP PROBLEMS. If you have read any of my postings, you will see I have had sleep disturbances for a decade +/-. Yes, this is part of my depression and part of my OCD ( I take Wellbutrin as AD), and yes, worrying is an Olympic sport for me. I don't remember the last time I slept for more than 4-5 hours straight. I wake, it seems, at the end of my dream-stage of REM sleep. Perhaps it is the length of my individual sleep cycle. This sleep problem has been perhaps the most intractable issue I have had to deal with since getting Pdoc "help". As I have posted, my doc has tried Neurontin, Trazadone, Topamax and Depakote (which I took for a few days then quit!!). None of these did the trick, and they have too many side effects and potential dangers. The benzos, specifically Klonopin and Tranzene, clearly help me to get to sleep, which is great. I used to roll around for hours. However, they do no promote long or deep sleep at the doses I take/took. Plus doc says I get "tolerant" to their effects (just say addicted and get it over with). I took Tranzene at the same stength over the past 2+ years, and it has helped me to get to sleep, but now Pdoc wants to get me off of it. Why? I have not increased dose or abused it? Which causes the most damage? Lack of sleep takes years off your life, and destroys life quality. Why does he want to make me change what worked?
