I don't understand how Wellbutrin could help take your mind off smokes, but not off food. I don't doubt you, but it's a mystery to me how this drug works. (I take Wellbutrin and also struggle with compulsive eating--though I had the problem before starting Wellbutrin too.)

More than once I left my friends for a few minutes without much explanation just to walk to a convenience store for a candy bar! Fortunately for me this didn't continue long enough to cause significant weight gain.

If it is, anxiogenic start-up side-effects of Prozac might be making it even worse (though both times I was on the stuff I lost weight in the first month). Or maybe there's just some effect of Wellbutrin that makes certain people want to eat all the time? I don't know. I've never tried to quit smoking myself (I only smoke two packs a /week/ anyway), but I've heard stories of people switching from compulsive cancer-stick sucking to compulsive carbohydrate ingesting as they try to quit. One of them said something about needing something in her mouth to replace the cigarette.

> Thanks pellmell - I think I might just go off Wellbutrin and see what happens. I started taking it to help me quit smoking and it really worked for me! It allowed me to stop thinking about wanting a cigarette every moment of every day. I was smoking at least 2 packs a day and I had smoked for 25 years -- so I really needed to quit. BUT - this weight gain is so devestating I just want to cry, and hide from everyone, and now I'm starting to think smoking wasn't as bad as gaining all this weight!
