In reply to Could Effexor XR be used to end one's life?, posted by Nephi on August 2, 2001, at 4:13:52
I've been slow to respond to this post because I tried two years ago to end my life taking all my psych meds that I had on hand (except my Effexor XR -- what I read was that it wouldn't add to the mix). I find posts regarding suicide very triggering.
My concern is whether you want this information because you are suicidal. If you are, then I am way too slow in responding -- I do hope you have long ago called someone or sought help -- the pain may be unbearable and you may want it to end, but suicide is not the answer. I hope you can believe me when I say that -- I thought that killing myself was the only answer, but fortunately, I kept (and keep) going -- and at times, it still is very hard, but then better times come and I am glad that I made it.
On the other hand, I may have this all wrong, and you may be asking because someone close to you tried this route and you are trying to help. In that case, back to my own research when I tried to take my life -- from what I read, I didn't see that I could take enough Effexor for it to do the trick - so I didn't even add it to the cocktail that night.
Again, if you are suicidal, I hope you don't choose that route. I am a total stranger, but even so, you still matter -- just look at this board -- your experiences, your opinions -- you have something to offer. If you are making plans, I would urge to call a friend, or a family member, or go to the hospital. Don't be alone. I know the pain -- it is unbearable. But you don't have to be alone.
