Hello MM,
Sadly Adrafinil will never be FDA approved. That's because it is so cheap there is no profit incentive to pay the millions of dollars it takes to get through the FDA process. It's a wonderful drug though. The label does warn about taking if you have epilepsy or bipolar, but then, that also applies to every psychiatric drug, not just one or the other. In my own experience though, Adrafinil has to be one of the mildest drugs there is. Minimum dose is 300mg, max is 1200mg. I take 300 and it works great. I was diagnosed as bipolar by three of four psychiatrists I've had, and Adrafinil has given me no problems. It only gives me benefits. Sometimes I think I may be on the edge of hypomania, but I don't mind at all because it is the good kind of hypomania, if that's what it is. The kind characterized by increased energy, creative ideas, good mood. Not the kind characterized by craziness and irritibility.
John> I just read some of the archives on adrafanil. Has anyone with bipolar tried it yet? What would it do if someone who has epilepsy took it? (I haven't been checked out for epilepsy, but some things make me wonder). Any info on FDA approval?
