switch- risperda to geodon-risperdal stopped worki

Posted by Karen Curtis on July 20, 2001, at 15:58:59

Hi all. I have a question. Is it common for risperdal to stop working for a child after a year and a half of having success with the drug? My 11 year old son was on risperdal for that length of time, and then it suddenly stopped working. We tried increasing the dose to over 3mg, and that did not work either. He was on 2 to 2.5 mg. He has been successfully switched to geodon, but I don't want the same thing to happen with the geodon, I want to avoid the instabilitywe experienced when the risperdal no longer worked. It had been the miracle drug for so long. While my son was on the risperdal, he was also taking tegretol. But even when the tegretol was stopped and other meds changed, the risperdal still stopped working. Thanks for any replies. Karen Curtis
