Sure, but excessive serotonin can cause anxiety too. Yep, the "ssri's" do boost norepinephrine and dopmamine(esp. Prozac and Zoloft)levels as well as serotonin. The older tricylics which boost norepinephrine more than serotonin are commonly used for generalized anxiety disorder. Fen-fen (fenfluramine/fluoxetine) which was used for weight control is a serotonin releasing agent and one of its side effects is anxiety. In other words, you can't just simplify it to "more serotonin is calming, more norepi causes anxiety".
