Effexor XR - Pregnancy and reducing dosage

Posted by girlie on July 12, 2001, at 10:26:01

Hi there,
I'm new to this board but I've been looking around. I saw some old posts regarding Effexor and pregnancy. Since the posts were from October of 2000, I was wondering if anyone has found out any new information regarding the effects of this drug during pregnancy.

I will be getting married in October of this year, and we want to start trying to conceive right away. I am on 300mg of Effexor XR, but I have just recently been reduced to 225mg/day in an effort to wean off of the drug. I can see that many of you have tried to go "cold turkey" and have felt the side effects. In my reduced dosage I occasionaly have the feeling that my mind and body are not in sync, dizziness, "electric shocks", etc. Hey, I had to wean onto Effexor, I knew I'd have to wean off some day.

This drug has done wonders for me, primarily in the area of controlling my anxiety. I am very nervous to be coming off of Effexor but, since I haven't found any proof that it won't cause birth defects, I need to. I have also noticed reduced sexual desire over the years and I have a very hard time reaching orgasm. I am hoping that things will get better as I wean off.

Anyone else have experience weaning off of Effexor? How long did it take you? Keep in mind, anxiety attacks are my biggest issue. A few weeks ago I tried to reduce dosage and I had several days of hardly being able to breathe due to anxiety. I went back on 300mg and have just started trying to reduce again.

I'm sorry this is so long, it just feels good to talk about it!!! LOL

Thanks
