Well, I have to say that I am very jealous! I took Topomax (as a mood stabilizer) for about 9 months, at only 100mg/day, and lost about 40# gained on other meds. But I had to go off it because it gave me cognitive problems that were just intolerable: I couldn't remember words ("word finding"), and I couldn't put sentences together in the right order- things would come out of my mouth in very strange forms and I would have to try and laugh it off and correct myself. It also did not have any significant mood stabilization effects for me.
Recently, I decided to experiment and see if I could lose weight at a very low dose and not get the cognitive effects. But they came back at only 25mg/day- which was a lower dose than I had begun to experience them at the first go around. Perhaps my system somehow recognized the drug and relapsed? I did however start to lose weight again during my 3 week experiment even at that very low dose.
I think that the action must be metabolic. Meds that I am on now (Adderall at total 10mg/day, and Thyroid supplement) have reduced my appetite significantly, but I'm only infinitesimally losing weight.
Good luck- I hope your progress continues well,
Cece

One doctor thinks it could be a reaction to the Topamax. I've been today to my psychiatrist who thinks it is not possible. What do you think. Has anybody ever experienced a reaction to Topamax that looks like chicken pox??? I really hope not because I'm so happy with the results of this medicine that I definitely would not want to give it up.
