Ten days is probably too short for a decision about Effexor's helpfulness at a higher dose.
Before increasing anything, talk to your pdoc. He or she will be able discuss it with you taking into account any other meds you're on, whether you will probably do ok on higher dose--or not, and recommend how far to up the dose.
I take 300 mg Effexor xr daily, and it helps, but have considered (with pdoc) increasing it AND lowering it, at different times. Different people respond differently, to an increase, and to the total amount being taken.
It may not be the Effexor that will get you through a tough period. If it is, you should go up and come down slooooowly. So it isn't like "stopping" it is like adjusting to little dose changes over time (weeks maybe).
Good luck,
Shar
> I've been on Effexor 112.5 mg for 4 years and have had really good results--except for sleepiness. Over the last 3-4 months I've been under a good amount of stress, which culminated 10 days ago with a pretty bad episode--very scarey for someone with 4 kids and stressful job). My Dr. has bumped me up to 150, but I haven't been able to tell any difference (10 days). I'm debating on going even higher, or trying to press on through this tough period (witht the help of some temporary Ativan for the interim). One of my fears of going higher is when will it stop, and will it be tougher to come down in the long-term. Any advice would really help. Thanks
