Its good for both...
Puzantian, Talia. Mirtazapine, an antidepressant. American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. 55(1):44-49, January 1, 1998:
"Its {Mirtazapine's} affinity for 5-HT1 receptor types (e.g., 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, and 5-HT1D) is low, so the drug does not antagonize the actions of serotonin at these locations; rather, it allows the increased serotonin released to act at the site. This mechanism of action may contribute to the antidepressant and anxiolytic activities of mirtazapine. Mirtazapine is a potent antagonist of 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C, and 5-HT3 receptors. Unlike other agents that augment serotonin neurotransmission, such as SSRIs, mirtazapine blocks these receptors and thus lowers the frequency of adverse effects such as anxiety, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, and nausea."
