Hi,
I have personal experience with both of these meds. For me Adrafinil is far superior to Modafinil. It's strange because they are almost identical in molecular diagrams, but wow are they different in real life. Adrafinil makes me feel motivated and interested, without feeling like I'm speeding on a stimulant, and it's great. Modafinil on the other hand was weird. For example, it would give me a lot of pep for a couple hours, but then was followed by profound tiredness and exhaustion. And it did nothing for my mood or motivation. Very strange stimulant. For some people it's great, but for me I find Adrafinil wonderful. Also much cheaper. I have no side effects.I have been taking Adrafinil for quite a few months now. I am on the minimum dose and there is no sign of poopout or tolerance at all. My liver and blood test the other day came back perfectly normal.
When I started Adrafinil I felt a nice pep during the first few days, which then vanished, but then returned again a bit slower over time. It really took 3 to 4 weeks for it to really kick in. Literature says it takes weeks to fully work, though I felt it almost immediately.
I think Adrafinil is best suited for those types of depression characterized by dullness, lack of motivation, lack of pleasure, lack of interest. Also well suited for the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. I'm not sure if Adrafinil is good for the type of depression characterized by crying and despair. One cool thing about Adrafinil that is different than other meds is that it can provide benefits even to someone who isn't depressed. Over time Adrafinil can make one more talkative, more outgoing, more involved, and more socially comfortable and confident.
Disclaimer though...like all meds it won't work for everyone. Also, I take minimum doses of Prozac during the day and Zyprexa at night. So I can't give all the credit to Adrafinil, though it is a major player. I sink into dullness without it.
