Thanks for the link. I didn't know much more than I posted so I found the site very helpful. I should have realized what a hot subject this was. Do you think that the FDA really will pull Synthroid? I'm guessing that they won't but that they might delay that decision a while.
I think the controversy about that study is more interesting than the study itself. The idea that a researcher signed an agreement giving a drug company control over what results got published scares me. As a patient I don't have much access to informal pipelines about what works or doesn't. I rely on the publications to reassure myself that my doctor's ideas make sense. (So far, so good.) I don't like to think that I might agree to try some promising off label use not knowing that a bunch of negative studies were surpressed.
I don't think this happens all the time. There wouldn't have been so much controversy if it did. I would like to know whether it still occurs and, if it does, how often. I'd love to hear that it doesn't. Maybe the outrage about this case produced some changes and this story is now just a history tidbit.
