I tried Remeron a year ago, and I had no problem taking a 45 mg dose.
Remeron is unique, because:--It can be used for all types of depression, anxiety, OCD, and insomnia.
--It is convienient because it is taken only once at bedtime.
--It may improve libido and sexual performance (its the only medication that improves mine). Dr. Bob Hsieung's fellow doctors recommend it for sexual dysfunction.
--You can take Remeron with most antidepressants except MAOIs.
--It has none of the anticholinergic effects of SSRIs.
--It has gained recognition as a very useful medication from psychiatrists in only four years of FDA approval.http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Mirtazapine-for-SSRI-ADRs.html

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/mirtaz.htmPuzantian, Talia. Mirtazapine, an antidepressant. American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. 55(1):44-49, January 1, 1998:
"Mirtazapine is a potent antagonist of 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C, and 5-HT3 receptors. Unlike other agents that augment serotonin neurotransmission, such as SSRIs, mirtazapine blocks these receptors and thus lowers the frequency of adverse effects such as anxiety, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, and nausea.""Two studies have evaluated mirtazapine's anxiolytic effects. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, four-week study, mirtazapine 15-25 mg daily (n = 20) was compared with placebo (n = 20). After 28 days, mirtazapine recipients showed significantly more improvement in overall anxiety symptoms, psychotic anxiety, and global functioning than placebo recipients did. In another study, the effects of one dose of mirtazapine, diazepam, or placebo given the night before elective gynecologic surgery were compared in 250 women, none of whom had psychiatric histories or alcohol or drug dependence. Patients receiving mirtazapine 15 mg reported as much reduction in anxiety as those receiving diazepam 10 mg. Both mirtazapine and diazepam were significantly better than placebo in enhancing sleep. More studies comparing mirtazapine with standard anxiolytics are needed to determine mirtazapine's potential use in treating primary anxiety disorders.
