How does alcohol effect the brain....

I posted this question a couple a months ago and didn't get much of a response. Does anyone know why the effects of alcohol after I sober up would help relieve my anxiety/ocd type symptoms. For most people this would usually be quite the opposite. It obviously has some effect on my brain chemistry. Does anyone know what that brain chemistry may be. If so, which medications may work the best.
