Hi GinaC. I am 10 days Fxr xr free. I weaned down from 300mg/day by reducing 75mg every two weeks. I then reduced to 37.5 mg. The last week I added 20 mg Prozac & experienced almost no discontinuation problems. I am basically med-free after 18 mos of non-stop meds & feel pretty good. But I won't hesitate to get back on them if I feel it's necessary. I was hospitalized before & I don't want it to happen again. Please discuss your decision to stop fxr with your doc & ask him about some of the suggestions found on PB for minimizing discontiuation fx. Hope this helps. Good luck

> I have tried to quit effexor both ways, by weaning myself off and by quitting cold turkey. Nothing seems to work for the side effects. I did not start effexor for the anxiety, my doctor subscribed it for fibromialgia symptoms, and the drug also just so happened to help my anxiety attacks(alot). But now it is time to get off. Even though it a a wonderful drug that has helped me alot. Does anyone have any tips on getting through the day with all the terrible side effects?
