In reply to getting off Prozac, posted by Julie on March 30, 1999, at 11:43:21
Hi Julie,
GOD!! Can I empathize with you!! I started my trek to go off Prozac 2 weeks ago and last night I had my first, and very scarry, panic attack in about a year and a half. I am still feeling the effects this morning - not fun :( My journey started off taking Paxil about a year and half ago and then switching to Celexa last fall then to Prozac 2 weeks ago. Why the all the switching? I found that Paxil turned out to be a "sexual damper" and so I made the move to Celexa. The switch to Prozac was made because of a combination of two things: I just didn't want to be on any type of anti-depressants anymore and I simply didn't want to take anymore pills! My doctor assured me that Prozac was easier to get off than any of the others. So, we started at 20 mg two weeks ago (for a week) and then I alternated between 10mg and 20mg last week each day. Next week is suppose to be just 10mg each day, however, I don't know if I am going to make it!! :) The doctor promised that it would be "very unlikely" that I would have any withdraw symptoms because I was coming off it so gradually. After last night...I am not so sure of that. I am going in to see her today and discuss what exactly is going on and if these attacks are here to stay.
I know this follow up may not answer you question, however, I can empathize with you and maybe you can take some comfort in that:)
Take Care:)
Lucy
