In reply to Borderline personality disorder... any stories??, posted by NikkiT2 on April 2, 2001, at 16:36:20
Nikki,
I have read about your recent problems and hope that you got some kind of beneficial treatment in the hospital.
As far as BPD I can only say what I have heard in that it seems to be the current "catch-all" daignosis. If you don't fit nicely into one of the DSM-IV categories you go into the BPD group.
That said I have never been concerned with my dx. I still don't know what it is and really don't care but I assume it is major depression. The only thing I concern myself with is the elimination of the symptoms.
No matter what type of mental illness we all have there are symptoms that can be eliminated or reduced. Mine happened to be ruminating thoughts, anhedonia, anergia and meloncholy. I have found that it is best to address these symoptoms rather than concern yourself with a dx.
Just a thought,
Chris
