I am unclear as to the use of naltrexone after opiate detoxification. I understand that it will prevent or greatly reduce the euphoric effects of an opiate, but does it actually reduce the cravings? Does it foster a disinterest in taking the addictive substance? What is to prevent an addict from saying, "I feel like getting high", and to discontinue the naltrexone to accomplish that.Is naltrexone helpful only for those committed to remaining drug-free?
Thanks.
