Well, these are all mood stabilizers, not specifically anti-anxiety meds, so that's hard to answer- also side effects vary so from person to person. I'm bipolar II, definitely need mood stabilizers, and take all 3 of these meds. But I also take anti-anxiety meds as well- xanax, and just now trying out zyprexa.

Here are url's for some of my previous posts that might include some relevant info:

From my experience, Neurontin is the most "benign" and calming of the 3, but it seems that it works best as an augmenter to other meds rather than as a stand-alone. Lamictal has been great for me as an activating mood stabilizer- except for possible side effects of too rapid dose increases, the only problem I've had is some constipation. Topomax does not do much for me as a mood stabilizer and gives me some cognitive problems, but I'm trying it again at a very low dose as I get weight loss benefit from it- trying to see if I can hit some happy medium.

The zyprexa, which I'm just trying at a very low dose, 1.25mg/day, is definitely having a calming effect. But I believe that it also is usually used in combo with other drugs (except perhaps in schizophrenia rather than in mood disorders).

I'm sure you'll get some more posts, possibly more specific to your anxiety problem, but I hope that this is useful as a starter.

Good luck- there's lots of meds out there, so keep on trying til you get the right combo.

> Which of these meds has the least amount of side effects? Which is least sedating? I read so many posts about these drugs and would like to find something to help with anxiety other than Xanax. I am currently using Prozac and Buspar. I don't think it is working to well.
