Hi James.I have a few questions for which I hope data is available.:
Which of the two isomers is the most potent antagonist of NE alpha-1a autoreceptors?
Which of the two isomers is the most potent antagonist of NE beta receptors?
I didn't know that pindolol was stereoisomeric. There is a growing field in psychopharmacological research to determine which of the isomers of any given psychotropic is most active, and to investigate whether it is as effective as the racemic mixture with reduced side-effects. My first guess regarding pindolol is that its NE-alpha 1a antagonism is what is most important in its production of antidepressant activity. If one can keep this property and lose the beta-blocking property, I think it would be more tolerable for people who are hypotensive or are already experiencing hypotensive side-effects intrinsic to some antidepressants.
Thanks.
By the way, how have you been?
