I hope I am wrong because I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have heard depression from strokes is harder to treat.

I think this may be because with a stroke, actual damage occurs to brain structures, and therefore SSRI's (which affect chemicals in the brain) may not work as well.

But I agree with the above, definately needs to be answered by a specialist.
