>Hi--
I too have ADD and I've researched and made the rounds of the
various boards. I've never come across an adult who was helped
by the EFAs or flax oil. The evidence for efficacy in children
is extremely slim. I have seen a handful of kids whose moms claim
the EFAs and vitamin supplemention has helped. The real problem with
drawing any conclusions is that the kids in question are *very*
complicated. Not one of them has ADD/HD without a host of comorbities,
so it's difficult to know what's going on.Forgive me if this is a sore subject but I feel like I should ask:
what stimulants did you try and for how long? I've come to realize
that everyone reacts very differently to the meds. Lots of adults can't
take ritalin at any dose; others fall asleep on dexadrine. The majority
of adults who take meds find that adderall works best for them. That said,
getting the dose right can be a *long* haul. What was your experience with
dosage? The AD meds can complicate matters. I'm presuming that you were dxed with
depression, since neither prozac or zoloft has any effect on ADD. There are
some studies that show a small group of people with ADD respond to wellbutrin.
When I started on stimulants I was taking paxil; in my case, it interacted with
the adderall and I had to get off the paxil in a huge hurry. Now I'm taking a
tricyclic and feel great. Moral of the story: not only does the stimulant have
to be right, so does the AD.The support of other adults with ADD can really help. Have you tried the CHADD
website to see if there is a support group near you? Therapy with a skilled
clinician has helped me tremendously too. Possible for you??I guess the bottom line here is that, if I were you, I would
make absolutely sure that you have exhausted every stimulant and dosage, and stimulant/AD
combination. Nothing else seems to work.Never seen anything about the EFAs working for depression. Lots of folks on this board
tho with tons of experience re: depression and meds.Good luck.
