Therefor it was not classified as an "addictive" narcotic. However as Dr. Bob has posted on this board, patients have gone through opioid style withdrawals on ultram, and they couldn't take a timeout just because the FDA said it doesn't happen. And btw there is no such thing as a CNS-agent not associated with a withdrawal effect after long or medium term usage. The difference seems to lie in how much they are hyped, as the NIDA and FDA and DEA have different priorities.
