In reply to can someone who takes amitriptyline help me?, posted by ItsJustMe on February 28, 2001, at 19:01:26
I've been taking Amitriptyline in various amounts for at least two years. My current dosage is 100 mgs right before bed (along with 100 mgs of Serzone). The most noticeable side-effects for me were the initial drowsiness, and it was significant during the first week. Next would be the dry mouth, dry eyes, dry everything; but those effects can be dealt with through many dietary changes, extra fiber, extra fruits, extra water, eye drops and so on. Amitriptyline also prevents my blinding migraines that used to knock me unconscious, so I *like* this med quite a bit.
Here's my current Med cocktail:
Adderall 40 mgs per/day
Serzone (nefazodone) 400 mgs p/day
Neurontin (gabapentin) 1,800 - 2,400 mgs p/day
Klonopin 1.5-2 mgs p/day
Amitriptyline 100-150 mgs p/day
Prozac 10 mgs p/daySo I'm taking a wide variety of meds, and have taken other combo's in the past, the only med I haven't allowed my Doc's to mess with has been the Amitriptyline, because it has some sort of stabilizing affect on me, and with my excruciating migraines held at bay, I'm doing much better than before the Amitriptyline.
I hope this helps, any other questions or maybe specifics you want to know, feel free to speak up! Oh - and the Ami also improved my libido and problems with marital relations, though this is not the usual effect for many others. My thoughts are with you.
