I have a med check tomorrow. I have been taking Nardil for over 5 years now. I feel like I am due for a change. In addition, the weight gain is becoming a danger to my health. I remember some of you take Selegiline. I asked one local psychiatrist about it and the only thing he knew was that it was a Parkinson's Disease Drug. This makes me feel as if I will have a long road ahead of me trying to find out if I can try this. I realize it is a different than Nardil and can be safer without the weight gain. I feel as if I am bound to take Nardil forever. I had tried all the SSRI's and many tricyclics. Nardil is the only thing that made me feel better. Does Selegiline work the same as Nardil? What differences would there be in side effect, etc? I have been dx'd with many different disorders in the past 15 years. The one DX that sticks is ATypical Depression. Anger and Rage become part of that when taking any SSRI's. I fear having that side effect again. Can any of you tell me anything about Selegiline and perhaps where I can refer my psychiatrist if he is not aware it is used for depression.
As far as I know and I know many people that use these same psychs, the routine drugs rx'd for depression are ssri's and tricyclics. If you don't respond to these, intense psychotherapy and inpatient stays are the next resort.
Thanks,
smdd
