Paxil withdrawal and stuttering...

Posted by Princess Artemis on February 22, 2001, at 1:49:59

I'm curious to see if this is at all common...I know people have experienced a myriad of symptoms withdrawing from Paxil, including stuttering, but I don't know if what I'm experiencing is anything like anything anyone else has...

I tried tapering off Paxil from 30mg, 5mg at a time, the dose being lowered every two weeks. This proved too fast for me, as when I got to 20mg, I was twitching and stuttering so badly I couldn't work and it was scaring my friends.

So my psych told me to go back to 30mg until the symptoms went away. I tried a few days at 25mg, as I didn't want to lose that bit of progress, but it didn't get rid of the stuttering, only relieved it somewhat, so since Friday morning (it's Wednesday night now), I've been taking the 30mg dose that I have been on for about 3 years.

Previously, all the heinous withdrawal symptoms went away aproximately 3 hours after taking the Paxil, with just a few left over lasting a couple days in a much reduced and easily tolerable state. The twitching caused by the second 5mg reduction is included; it went away almost entirely after a day or so.

HOWEVER, the stuttering has not! In fact, it's gotten worse (after a brief period of being better when I went back up to 30mg). I have never stuttered before in my life, and it is frustrating to say the least. Singing is OK, making asides or talking to myself are not nearly as affected, but when ever I talk to people, the stuttering is quite noticable. It seems worse in the evenings.

I am going to make every attempt to see a regular doctor ASAP, as I am becoming quite concerned...but I have Kaiser Permanente as insurance and it's hard getting in anytime earlier than a month away :P

Anyway...words of support would be nice, words of hard scientific reasons why I haven't had something Really Bad happen to me would be cherished...

So...anyone else experience anything similar?
