Doxepin is such an old drug...I wonder why the doctor prescribed that--instead of all the newer ones with less side-effects.
But anyway, with Prozac, it can go either way: You can gain weight and it will make you tired, or: you will be very stimulated and lose weight.
Here's how to beat the system's forcing you to endure possible weight gain. Refuse all tricyclics, MAOIs and atypical antipsychotics. Ask if you can add Wellbutrin or maybe Lithium to the Prozac, instead of this Prozac/Doxepin combo that I have never heard of. Wellbutrin has few side-effects--it is one of the most tolerated drugs except for Prozac. It is known to promote weight loss in average people by killing their appetite. And also, it is an effective antidepressant by itself. It, of course, takes 4-6 weeks to work.
Here's my analysis of weight gain in antidepressants/anticonvulsants. I have taken every one there is, and all the experimental stuff, too:
tricyclics - all bad, even protriptyline
amitriptyline - bad, worst of tricyclics
mirtazapine (tetracyclic) - bad
MAOI-A's: all bad
RIMA (moclobemide) - good, best of MAO
buproprion - good
venlafaxine - good
SSRIs - good, but I sometimes turn against them
fluoxetine - generally good, best of SSRIs, even promotes weight loss in certain obese people.
